Mississippi State’s 0–14 shutout loss at LSU on Saturday exposed deeper issues beyond the absence of starting quarterback Kamario Taylor. Despite moving the ball effectively—gaining 170 rushing yards and 18 first downs—the Bulldogs failed to capitalize on five fourth-down opportunities, including a first-half drive that stalled at the LSU 2-yard line.
Two of those attempts came on goal-to-go situations, where the offense struggled to convert despite the field position. The defense, meanwhile, allowed LSU to dominate early, with the Tigers scoring touchdowns on their first two possessions and launching a 16-play, eight-minute drive in the second half that Mississippi State could only limit to a field goal.
The Bulldogs’ inability to create stops that reset the game left their offense with fewer chances to find rhythm, particularly with a backup quarterback at the helm.
