Texas infielder Adrian Rodriguez has permanently abandoned switch-hitting due to a lingering left-hand injury that began with a fractured hamate in March 2025. Following medical advice and extensive discussions with family, coaches, and assistant Troy Tulowitzki, head coach Jim Schlossnagle confirmed the junior will bat solely from the left side moving forward to reduce physical strain and practice volume.
Rodriguez previously underwent surgery to insert a staple, which was later removed in March 2026 after inflammation caused by a metal reaction. The coaching staff hopes this permanent adjustment and a scaled-back pregame routine will keep their star shortstop healthy and productive for the upcoming season.
