Spurs in relegation zone after Villa claim first win

Tottenham entered the international interval anchored in the drop zone following a 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa, meaning Roberto De Zerbi's heavily funded roster remains winless in the Premier League. The hosts pressed early as Zion Suzuki turned away two rapid attempts from Savio before Pedro Porro departed through a suspected groin strain, with his replacement Archie Gray also thwarted by the goalkeeper.

Moments after Micky van de Ven exited the pitch for medical care following contact with Tyrone Mings, Johan Manzambi struck his maiden strike for the visitors deep in first-half stoppage time. Although Mohammed Kudus thought he had equalized by bundling in an Andy Robertson delivery set up by Sandro Tonali, the strike was overturned by VAR due to offside in the build-up.

Villa capitalized further when Nicolas Jackson overcame Van de Ven to drill an effort into the lower corner, followed by Emi Buendia's 25-yard screamer that prompted visiting supporters to chant for De Zerbi's dismissal. Spurs, who had failed to find the net across four previous league outings, finally registered when Conor Gallagher converted from close range in the 86th minute, before Jan Paul van Hecke headed in another deep in added time.

Despite the late goals, the result sealed Villa's inaugural victory of the campaign and left Tottenham with just five wins from their prior 36 outings at their home ground.
