Somerset and Nottinghamshire title hopes hit by defeats: County Championship cricket, day four – as it happened

Title aspirations for both Somerset and Nottinghamshire took a significant blow after suffering losses to Yorkshire and Sussex, respectively, providing a notable advantage to Warwickshire. At Headingley, where national selector Stephen Fleming had visited the previous day, Somerset struggled to 76 for four as Ben Cliff claimed his ninth scalp of the contest by having Tom Lammonby edged and caught behind before immediately beating the defensive push of James Rew.

Meanwhile, Hamza Sheikh fell at Grace Road.

Nottinghamshire also found themselves in deep trouble during their clash with Sussex, holding a precarious 32-run advantage with eight wickets down. Ari Karvelas continued an impressive spell of bowling by having Brett Hutton neatly pouched in the slip cordon to compound their batting collapse.
