Former cricketer Simon Katich warned that multiple members of the visiting Australian squad are fighting to save their Test futures during the ongoing second fixture against South Africa. Australia finds itself staring at a possible defeat after being forced to follow on, closing out the fourth day at 156/4 in their second time at bat and still lagging behind by 170 runs.
Marnus Labuschagne drew heavy criticism following a disappointing dismissal where he threw away his wicket for 39 by attempting an aggressive shot against spinner Simon Harmer while trying to secure a draw. Head coach Andrew McDonald also voiced frustration over the manner of the dismissal, noting that the batsman repeatedly struggles to push past the thirty-run mark.
Nic Maddinson and Beau Webster have similarly failed to deliver meaningful contributions, adding severe strain to the batting lineup as selectors evaluate squad positions.
