During the second fixture of the ODI series, Indian skipper Shubman Gill achieved a monumental milestone by recording his second double century in the format, reaching the landmark in the thirty-ninth over while chasing a massive total of 406 runs against the West Indies. Gill accomplished the feat off just 117 deliveries, thereby setting a new record for the fastest double hundred in ODI history and joining Rohit Sharma as the only other batter with multiple scores of two hundred or more in fifty-over cricket.
Opening partner Rohit Sharma also reached a major personal milestone during the same contest by surpassing twelve thousand runs in ODI matches, doing so in his 282nd innings to become the third Indian player to enter that exclusive club after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Rohit contributed significantly to the innings with a fluent century of 101 runs from 75 balls, combining with Gill for an opening partnership of 255 runs that positioned their side strongly toward the target.
