Liverpool have completed a deal to sign Hungarian academy standout Erik Farkas, positioning him as the club’s latest high-profile playmaker in the mold of Philippe Coutinho. The 18-year-old’s arrival follows a summer in which Liverpool secured Joshua Abe’s professional contract and now finalized terms with Farkas, both regarded as two of the Reds’ most promising young talents.
Farkas has already shown flashes of Coutinho’s signature creativity, with six goals and three assists in just 553 minutes at academy level this season, demonstrating his ability to unlock defenses with vision and technical mastery. His signing comes as Liverpool seek to address the lingering void left by Coutinho’s departure in 2018, a move that ultimately benefited the club financially while also sparking a search for a successor.
Florian Wirtz, Liverpool’s previous high-profile signing in that role, has yet to replicate his Bundesliga form in England, leaving manager Xabi Alonso with the challenge of unlocking his potential. Farkas’s arrival offers a fresh opportunity to bridge that gap, with his natural flair and adaptability marking him as a potential long-term solution to Liverpool’s midfield needs.
