The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms with veteran running back Joe Mixon, who has been sidelined from NFL action for over a year due to an undisclosed foot injury. Mixon, who last played in January 2025, is set to join the defending Super Bowl champions after working out with the team and passing initial evaluations.
He will initially sign with the practice squad, where he will undergo further medical clearance before potentially earning a spot on the active roster. The 30-year-old back was a standout performer in 2024, rushing for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns while also contributing as a receiver with 36 catches for 309 yards and a score, earning him a Pro Bowl selection that season.
The Seahawks, currently 3-1, are facing a rushing void after rookie Zach Charbonnet was placed on injured reserve and will miss at least three more games. Emanuel Wilson has stepped in to carry the load, recording 81 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 attempts in the team’s latest win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
With Velus Jones Sr. serving as the backup and Jacardia Wright the only other running back on the practice squad, the addition of Mixon could provide much-needed depth and experience to a unit struggling for consistency on the ground.
