The Jacksonville Jaguars’ acquisition of Jakobi Meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders at last year’s trade deadline has proven far more impactful than initially expected. Meyers, a steady but unspectacular wide receiver with just one 1,000-yard season and no Pro Bowl appearances, arrived in a Jaguars offense struggling with receiver injuries and inconsistent production.
By mid-2025, he had become a linchpin, setting career highs with 87 catches and 1,027 yards—numbers that transformed Trevor Lawrence’s surroundings. The move came after Meyers, unhappy with his contract situation, requested a trade before the season and again in late October, forcing Jacksonville’s hand just weeks before the deadline.
The Jaguars acted quickly, finalizing the deal and later extending Meyers to secure his services long-term. The addition provided Lawrence with a reliable target, especially as Brian Thomas Jr.
faced a down year and Travis Hunter dealt with injuries. Meyers’ presence helped stabilize the passing game, giving Lawrence a consistent option in a previously inconsistent receiving corps.
