Remco Evenepoel to skip the European Championships time trial to concentrate on next Sunday's Il Lombardia

Fresh off securing a dominant victory in the road race at the UEC European Road Championships, Remco Evenepoel announced he will bypass the upcoming time trial event. The newly crowned global time trial champion explained that his immediate focus shifts entirely toward capturing the upcoming Il Lombardia title.

While the 26-year-old athlete possesses four rainbow jerseys, two prior continental time trial crowns, and a recent Olympic gold medal from Paris, he has never secured victory at the Italian Classic. In previous attempts, he finished behind Tadej Pogačar, who missed the starting line for Sunday's road race due to recovery from injuries sustained in a crash during the eighth stage of the Vuelta a España.

Pogačar was present at the Slovenian venue, observing from a race direction car as Evenepoel triumphed. Before turning his complete attention to the final monument of the season, the Belgian star stated his intention to celebrate his milestone achievement of claiming every major championship title in professional cycling.
