With the 2027 IPL mini-auction approaching and a November 15 retention deadline looming, Ravichandran Ashwin has suggested that Hardik Pandya would be a strong tactical acquisition for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Ashwin pointed to the potential for Pandya to take on leadership duties following Ajinkya Rahane's retirement, while noting that Mumbai Indians have struggled to find consistent success since Pandya assumed the captaincy in 2024.
Despite interest from several franchises, including the Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Punjab Kings, the Knight Riders are currently viewed as the frontrunners for his signature. Ashwin also speculated on potential trade assets, mentioning players like Varun Chakravarthy, Rashid Khan, and Azmatullah Omarzai as pieces that could facilitate various deals across the league.
