Former national selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth has suggested that the Chennai Super Kings attempt to acquire Hardik Pandya from the Mumbai Indians ahead of the December mini-auction for the 2027 Indian Premier League season. Srikkanth proposed that Chennai could release Shivam Dube without demanding any trade return to clear space for Pandya, adding that Dube could simply re-enter the auction pool.
He noted that the move would benefit both franchises by stabilizing Chennai's all-rounder position and helping Mumbai reset following a ninth-place finish in the 2026 campaign, which followed their fourth-place standing in 2025 and Chennai's struggles to reach the playoffs since capturing their fifth title in 2023 under Ruturaj Gaikwad.
In addition to the trade proposal, Srikkanth recommended that Mumbai Indians hire Chandrakant Pandit as head coach to replace Mahela Jayawardene, citing Pandit's local background and quiet working style as ideal traits for the franchise. The commentator also suggested Pandit would provide strong value as a thoughtful leader.
Neither franchise has confirmed any official trade discussions or coaching changes.
