Notts' title hopes dented by dominant Sussex

Ari Karvelas dismantled Nottinghamshire's batting lineup with figures of 4-34, severely dampening the visiting side's County Championship title defense on day three in Hove. Following an opening partnership of 52 between Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater, Karvelas generated sharp bounce to remove Slater, later dismissing Hameed for 43 and Joe Clarke for his 100th first-class wicket before John Simpson caught Freddie McCann behind.

Jaydev Unadkat compounded the collapse by snatching three wickets across 14 deliveries, dismissing Jack Haynes, Olly Stone, and Liam Patterson-White to leave Nottinghamshire stumbling to 149-7, clinging to a slender 31-run lead.

Earlier in the day, rain washed out 36 overs prior to lunch before Nottinghamshire swiftly dismissed Sussex's final four batters for eight runs in 23 balls, halting their total at 358. Tom Clark top-scored with 89 and Tom Price contributed 72 alongside Jack Carson's half-century, while Brett Hutton took 4-59 and Stone claimed 3-81.

Despite that lower-order fightback securing a bowling bonus point, Nottinghamshire now face a steep challenge to avoid defeat and maintain pace with table-topping Warwickshire.
