Notts' title chances dented by loss to Sussex

Sussex dealt a severe blow to Nottinghamshire's title defense by securing a seven-wicket victory at Hove. Having bowled out the visitors for 193 in their second innings—spurred by Ari Karvelas claiming 5-42 and Jack Carson trapping Mitch Hay and Tom Giles leg-before to dismiss the tail—the hosts chased down a modest target of 76 in just 18 overs.

Despite early strikes from Olly Stone, Ben Hutton, and Mukesh Kumar, an unbeaten 38 from George Thomas alongside contributions from Charlie Tear and Carter carried Sussex over the line twenty minutes past lunch to claim 22 championship points to Nottinghamshire's three.

The result leaves Nottinghamshire needing a win over Yorkshire in their final fixture while relying on Leicestershire to defeat table-toppers Warwickshire. Meanwhile, Sussex celebrated their sixth win of the campaign, matching the totals of Warwickshire and Somerset as they push for a top-three finish despite having absorbed a 12-point deduction prior to the season.

They will conclude their schedule against basement side Hampshire aiming to surpass last term's fourth-place standing.
