Indian skipper Shubman Gill has expressed serious reservations regarding his squad's fielding efficiency and death-over bowling capabilities following a series defeat against the West Indies. Addressing reporters, the captain pointed out that missed chances and defensive uncertainty in the final overs severely undermined their campaign as they prepare for next year's tournament.
The hosts failed to successfully defend target scores exceeding 350 across multiple fixtures, while also managing to drop a half-dozen catches during the matches.
Gill additionally noted that scheduling conflicts and physical ailments sidelined premier bowling options like Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, leaving the team without their preferred lineup. Despite the unfortunate personnel gaps caused by injuries and fitness problems, he viewed the situation as an opportunity for newer squad members to prove their capabilities.
India is scheduled to contest eight additional fifty-over fixtures before the major international competition approaches.
