Get startedNorthwestern football has returned to the national spotlight after a six-year absence, entering the AP Top 25 rankings for the first time since the 2020-2021 season. The Wildcats, now ranked 25th, have shown surprising resilience under fourth-year head coach David Braun, posting a 4-1 record and delivering a thrilling performance against Indiana earlier this year.
Their offensive transformation, led by offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, has been nothing short of remarkable. Northwestern’s offense has shifted gears dramatically, averaging 437.4 yards per game and 7.8 yards per play this season—up from 346.1 yards and 5.4 yards per play last year.
The team’s scoring efficiency has also skyrocketed, with an average of 35.4 points per game compared to just 23.4 in 2025, and they’ve dominated opponents by an average margin of 25.5 points per win. Despite a narrow 6-point loss to defending national champions in Week 4, the Wildcats cut a 12-0 deficit to just two in the fourth quarter, proving they can compete with the best.
Their next challenge comes this Saturday, October 17, when they face Michigan State in a high-stakes matchup that will test their newfound competitiveness.
