The NFL has handed down suspensions to two officials following incidents of unprofessional conduct during recent games. Line judge Jeff Seeman was suspended for two games after being caught on camera using profanity directed at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during a contest against the New York Giants.
The altercation occurred late in the fourth quarter after officials declined to penalize Giants receiver Dru Phillips for contact with McBride on a third-down play. The Cardinals ultimately punted, and the Giants went on to win 36-24, with Deonte Banks sealing the victory by intercepting Jacoby Brissett and returning it for a touchdown as time expired.
The NFL Players Association’s executive director, JC Tretter, condemned the behavior, emphasizing that officials must be held to the same standards as players when it comes to accountability. Separately, referee Adrian Hill was also suspended for unprofessional conduct in the Miami Dolphins-Minnesota Vikings game.
