New York Liberty Make WNBA History, Become First No. 8 Seed to Knock Out a No. 1 Seed

The eighth-seeded New York Liberty made postseason history by eliminating the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx in a two-game sweep of their opening playoff series. After taking the opening contest on the road behind a massive thirty-four-point performance from Breanna Stewart, New York secured the series victory at home with an eighty-seven to seventy-one triumph.

Jonquel Jones anchored the clinching win with twenty-one points and thirteen rebounds, while Sabrina Ionescu added eighteen points to help seal the historic advancement. The victory marks the first time an eight seed has knocked out a top seed since the WNBA adopted its current quarterformat playoff structure.
