Twenty-year-old Ecuadorian climber Mateo Ramirez is making the jump to the WorldTour level by signing with Movistar for the 2027 season after departing from UAE Team Emirates-XRG. Ramirez built a strong reputation in the under-23 ranks this year by securing fourth place overall at the Tour de l'Avenir shortly after finishing as the runner-up at the Giro d'Italia Next Gen.
Movistar management secured his signature as their fifth addition for 2027, pairing him with compatriot Jefferson Cepeda. Team manager Sebastian Unzue expressed enthusiasm for nurturing the young athlete's considerable potential as he prepares to contribute alongside other general classification contenders like Enric Mas, Cian Uijtdebroeks, and Ivan Romeo.
