South African fast-bowling coach Morne Morkel defended India’s bowlers ahead of the series decider against West Indies, acknowledging the challenges posed by the high-scoring conditions. The Windies have chased down 352 in an ODI and 250 in a T20I, with Shai Hope’s unbeaten centuries leading their aggressive approach.
Morkel highlighted the difficulties of bowling in dew-affected conditions and against Hope, emphasizing the need for precision and adaptability. He also noted the mental strain on the Indian team, which recently returned from the Asian Games and faced a grueling schedule, including a late-night arrival for the final match.
Despite the pressure, Morkel praised the bowlers’ resilience, suggesting they should allow opponents occasional mistakes rather than relentlessly pursuing every opportunity.
The series has tested India’s ability to contain explosive batting, with Morkel stressing the importance of varied bowling strategies—such as mixing short balls and adjusting lengths—to disrupt Hope’s rhythm. He acknowledged that while the team has a clear plan, execution and timing remain critical, especially against a side that adapts quickly to changes in attack.
The final T20I will serve as a true test of India’s ability to balance aggression with discipline under fatigue.
