A massive group of tennis professionals, including 137 current players, 33 former pros, and 20 federations, have signed a public letter to the ATP board to protest against proposed 2028 changes. The plan would reduce doubles draws at Masters 1000 events from -32 teams to 16, and redirect $20 million in prize money from doubles to singles.
While the ATP's overall compensation package aims to raise total player earnings to $350 million annually by 2028, players are worried about the ability to sustain a doubles-specialist career. Signatories' concerns focus on the support for singles players, helping with qualifying and early-round pay, helping with the ability toos to make doubles more attractive to fans and sponsors.
