Former India batsman Mohammad Kaif criticised the way Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been treated after the seamer was recalled for the five‑match T20I series in New Zealand, noting that his comeback match in Bengaluru was washed out by rain. Kaif said Kumar’s economy of 6.96 in T20Is is almost identical to Jasprit Bumrah’s 6.52 and that their overall statistics are very close, arguing that Kumar has been unfairly scapegoated for India’s heavy defeats to Pakistan and England in the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups.
Kaif highlighted that Kumar’s record remained solid even when he was dropped, pointing to two five‑wicket hauls and ten maiden overs in 88 matches, while Bumrah has 13 maidens in 100 games. He praised Kumar’s simple, unflashy personality and urged the board to explain the perceived preferential treatment given to Bumrah compared with the snub faced by other pacers like Mohammed Shami.
