New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is off to a difficult start in his third professional campaign following a runner-up finish in the previous season's MVP voting. Through three contests, Maye has produced just one touchdown pass alongside six interceptions, bringing his passer rating down to 58.6 after a 113.5 mark last year.
During Sunday's 35-6 loss in Duval, he committed three turnovers with no scores. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel addressed the situation during an appearance on WEEI's The Greg Hill Show, comparing Maye's overthinking to a golfer squeezing a club too tightly.
Vrabel emphasized that the young signal-caller must stop forcing plays, loosen up, and return to standard football. Analyst analysis indicates Maye has also developed mechanical issues, including a wrist flick before releases and a tendency to guide passes instead of letting go naturally.
