McBurnie & seven uncapped players in Scotland squad

New Scotland manager Sebastien Pocognoli has named his inaugural squad ahead of four Nations League B fixtures against Slovenia, Switzerland, and North Macedonia, beginning on 26 September. Striker Oli McBurnie earns his first international inclusion in five years, having last appeared in 2021 to earn the most recent of his 16 appearances.

The 30-year-old, who previously converted a decisive spot-kick to help secure Euro 2020 qualification despite never scoring in open play for his country, had previously fallen out of favor under former manager Steve Clarke. Along with McBurnie, the roster sees recalls for Scott Bain, Kieron Bowie, Josh Doig, Lennon Miller, James Wilson, and Napoli's Billy Gilmour, who missed the World Cup through injury.

Pocognoli has also infused the side with seven uncapped players: Stoke defender Luke Graham, Sevilla attacker Robbie Ure, Jon McCracken, Josh McPake, Stephen Welsh, Brondby's 25-year-old defender Luis Binks, and Celtic right-back Colby Donovan, who recently broke through at club level covering for Alistair Johnston. The Belgian manager emphasized that his selections represent a fresh start tailored to his intended tactical approach, balancing seasoned veterans with rising talent while stressing that further candidates remain on his radar.
