Chris Lulham, a driver for Max Verstappen’s GT World Challenge Europe squad, has issued an apology following a controversial collision during the Portimao round that drew significant online criticism. The incident occurred during the three-hour Endurance Cup race, where Lulham—driving the No.
3 Mercedes AMG alongside Ben Barnicoat and Verstappen—clashed with the No. 48 Mercedes at Turn 7 after a safety car period.
The contact sent the rival car into a spin and earned Lulham a drive-through penalty, forcing Verstappen to take over for the final stint from outside the top 20. Despite the setback, Verstappen secured ninth place in his GTWCE debut, marking his first race in the series alongside his team-mates.
