Max Verstappen used his social media platform to defend GT World Challenge Europe teammate Chris Lulham after the Dutch driver faced online harassment following a collision at the Portimão round. Verstappen’s Team Verstappen Mercedes, starting 24th after Lulham’s drive-through penalty for contact with the No.11 Mercedes, staged a dramatic late charge to ninth place.
The comeback began after Lulham handed the car to Verstappen, who methodically climbed positions despite the late deficit. Verstappen criticized the personal attacks on Lulham, emphasizing that mistakes happen in racing and calling for respect in the sport.
The Red Bull F1 star, making his GT3 series debut, also praised the team’s effort, calling the weekend ‘exciting’ despite the challenges, including a tough qualifying session and a late race reshuffle when Ben Barnicoat exited early.
