Star McLaren junior’s 2027 race plans announced as F1 door closed

With a Formula 1 race seat blocked by the current driver pairing, McLaren junior Leonardo Fornaroli will redirect his career toward endurance racing. The reigning champion of both FIA Formula 3 and FIA Formula 2 will spearhead his brand's debut in the World Endurance Championship Hypercar class starting in 2027.

He will also maintain his duties as an F1 reserve driver alongside his new sports car commitments, which feature a maiden start at Le Mans. Team leadership praised the young driver's speed and consistency following his successful ascension through the junior series, rounding out a driver roster that includes Alex Lynn, Mikkel Jensen, and Laurens Vanthoor.
