Lincoln win at Bristol City to haunt old boss Skubala

Freddie Draper struck eight minutes into the second period to hand Lincoln a 1-0 Championship triumph, inflicting misery on Bristol City and their manager Michael Skubala, who previously steered the visitors to promotion. The breakthrough emerged on 53 minutes following a costly defensive blunder by Rob Dickie, whose undercooked retreat toward Sam Tickle allowed Ben House to dispossess the stranded shot-stopper and provide Draper an open-goal finish.

Both sides had entered the match reshuffled, with the Robins handing a home bow to Gibson Yah among three switches after a 4-1 thrashing at Southampton, while Lincoln shuffled five players following their 1-0 win at Preston, handing Chiedozie Ogbene his maiden league start as a supporting attacker. A tense, card-heavy opening half yielded five bookings alongside early stops on Draper and Yu Hirakawa by the respective goalkeepers, though the hosts came closest when Lorent Tolaj headed a corner from assist-leader Rio Cardines against the woodwork, while Tolaj and Ogbene subsequently wasted further chances.

Lincoln pressed their advantage immediately after the interval as Deji Elerewe glanced off-target and Ogbene forced a low stop before Draper ultimately pounced. George Wickens subsequently produced a vital leg save to deny Hirakawa's 60th-minute attempt, right after Skubala introduced Dom Ballard for Jed Wallace in search of an equalizer.

Bristol City's woes deepened when Dickie was stretchered off with an injury after being fouled from behind in the 72nd minute, paving the way for Rob Atkinson to enter the backline. Although Yah saw an effort blocked in the box following another dangerous Cardines delivery, the resolute away defense held firm to preserve the advantage.
