The New York Giants are exploring ways to incorporate quarterback J.J. McCarthy into their offensive lineup, according to head coach John Harbaugh.
McCarthy saw limited action in last week’s tie against the Washington Commanders, logging just five snaps—two carries for two rushing yards—while also being flagged for two penalties that negated his contributions. Despite his minimal impact, Harbaugh emphasized the value of utilizing every player on the roster, framing it as a strategic opportunity rather than a desperate move.
The coach noted that McCarthy’s rushing ability could provide a tactical advantage, offering a different dynamic than the Giants’ current quarterback, Jameis Winston. While McCarthy’s role remains uncertain, Harbaugh suggested the team will continue evaluating his potential to contribute as the season progresses.
His presence on the roster is still new, having joined the Giants just a few weeks ago, but the coaching staff is committed to exploring all possible ways to maximize their roster’s depth.
