Tennessee stunned No. 6 Alabama 26‑10 on Saturday, a win that vaulted the Volunteers into the national title conversation.
Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, now 61, celebrated the upset with a viral dance that lit up social media, underscoring his continued energy on the sideline. Head coach Josh Heupel had hired Knowles after the Penn State staff change, hoping his experience – including a 2024 national title at Ohio State – would revive Tennessee’s defense.
Knowles’ scheme limited Alabama to just 201 total yards and forced four turnovers, with quarterback Keelon Russell accounting for two of the fumbles. The Vols’ pass rush, led by Tyree Weatherby and Jeremiah Telander with two sacks each and a third from Arion Carter, sacked Russell five times and held him to 147 passing yards.
The defensive effort unfolded inside Neyland Stadium, where no Crimson Tide receiver exceeded 54 yards and the Tide’s ground game was stifled to 34 yards overall.
