India’s ODI squad reshuffle ahead of the 2027 World Cup has sent shockwaves through the team, with veteran all-rounder **Ravindra Jadeja** and explosive opener **Yashasvi Jaiswal** both omitted from the upcoming five-match series against New Zealand. Jadeja’s exclusion—after a prolonged form slump—threatens his chances of securing a spot in the World Cup squad, while Jaiswal’s surprise drop denies him a chance to partner Rohit Sharma at the top of the order following Shubman Gill’s departure for Test preparations.
The BCCI has split the squad into two groups, with Gill, KL Rahul, Anshul Kamboj, and Prasidh Krishna leaving after the first three ODIs to focus on the subsequent Test series. Axar Patel steps in as Jadeja’s replacement, while wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan returns to the fold, displacing Dhruv Jurel despite his recent omission from the West Indies series.
Fast bowler Auqib Nabi, who struggled in the opener against the West Indies, has been replaced by Anshul Kamboj for the first three matches, with the arrangement reversing for the final two ODIs. The squad will also welcome debutants Kumar Kushagra and Yash Thakur, alongside Tilak Varma, for the last two games as India fine-tunes its lineup ahead of the marquee tournament.
