During a congressional hearing on Tuesday morning, Senator Eric Schmitt attempted to trap special counsel Jack Smith by presenting text messages that allegedly placed Smith in Atlanta on February 3, 2024, to watch an NBA game between the Atlanta Hawks and the Golden State Warriors as part of a conspiracy theory involving Fani Willis. However, the text messages actually referred to a college basketball game in Maryland where the Iowa Hawkeyes defeated the Maryland Terrapins 93 to 85, featuring a stellar 38-point performance by Caitlin Clark.
Senator Amy Klobuchar mocked Schmitt's mistake and lack of sports knowledge during the proceedings, while it was confirmed that Smith attended the collegiate matchup alongside members of the United States Marshals Service.
