Former national team batter Veda Krishnamurthy has voiced support for handing leadership duties of the UP Warriorz to Deepti Sharma ahead of the Women's Premier League 2027 tournament. During a recent broadcast appearance, she explained that installing an indigenous cricketer at the helm would optimize foreign player combinations and preserve tactical flexibility in the playing lineup.
Krishnamurthy also noted that veteran figure Meg Lanning could remain on the roster to mentor the squad without occupying the captaincy position or forcing her own selection during a slump. Meanwhile, the franchise entered the recent auction holding the biggest financial reserve and used it to recruit several new athletes, including Sophie Molineux, Grace Harris, Sneh Rana, Sushma Verma, and Kathryn Bryce.
