Chris DeMarco firing brings down the curtain on Liberty's tumultuous 2026

Following a turbulent campaign that concluded with a postseason exit, the New York franchise has dismissed head coach Chris DeMarco after less than a year on the job. The organization initially brought in the former NBA assistant to steer a star-studded roster featuring Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, Jonquel Jones, and Satou Sabally following Sandy Brondello's departure.

Despite capturing a Commissioner's Cup title and sweeping the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx in the opening round, the team stumbled in the semifinals against the Atlanta Dream. A crucial clock management error by the coaching staff during an overtime defeat proved costly, contributing to the front office's decision to search for a third head coach in three years.
