
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday announced a Rs 1 crore reward for each of four athletes from the state who secured gold medals at the recently concluded Asian Games in Japan. The recognition includes Pushpa Rana, Jyoti Thakur, and Bhawna Thakur, who were part of the women’s kabaddi team that successfully defended their title with a 37-34 victory over Iran in the final.
Additionally, Renuka Singh Thakur, a member of the women’s cricket team, received the same cash award after leading her team to a 147-run triumph over Sri Lanka in the championship match. Sukhu also pledged government employment for the kabaddi players, offering roles in the police force or sports department to support their continued athletic careers while promoting sports development in Himachal Pradesh.
The state government has revised its sports policy to enhance prize money for international gold medalists and improve sports infrastructure across the region.
