New York Giants wide receiver Braxton Berrios has been placed on injured reserve after suffering a foot injury during the team’s 36-24 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The injury occurred late in the first half, cutting short Berrios’ season after just four games.
Acquired in June as a one-year signing to replace Gunner Olszewski—who tore his ACL in offseason workouts—Berrios had contributed primarily as a return specialist, tallying five kickoff returns for 138 yards and four punt returns for 10 yards. His lone target as a receiver came in Sunday’s game, though the pass attempt fell incomplete.
With Berrios sidelined, rookie Charlie Jones, promoted to the 53-man roster last month, will now handle the returning duties, having already stepped in for Berrios in the second half of the Cardinals game with two punt returns and three kickoff returns.
