Indian sports wrap, October 15: Fourth edition of IIS Sangai Cup to be held between October 16-18

The fourth edition of the IIS Sangai Cup will kick off in Imphal from October 16 to 18, serving as a crucial state-level selection trial for Manipur’s judo team ahead of the National Judo Championships. Organized jointly by the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) and the Manipur Judo Association (MJA), the three-day tournament will feature competitions across Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior, and Senior categories at the Sports Authority of India New Multipurpose Hall, Takyelpat.

The event builds on past editions, which drew over 500 participants, underscoring its role as a key platform for nurturing young talent in the region.

Meanwhile, Soni Yadav has been named captain of Delhi’s squad for the upcoming Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, set to begin on October 26. The team, finalized by the Senior Women’s Selection Committee, includes Shweta Sehrawat as vice-captain and wicketkeeper, with the squad reporting for duty at Guru Gobind Singh College ground.

Additionally, the Indian Golf Premier League and Phoenix Hyderabad Firebirds GC introduced over 70 students from Government High School, Ziaguda, to golf through an interactive ‘Golf on Wheels’ session at the Hyderabad Golf Association, aiming to expand accessibility for young players.
