India reached a historic landmark in Christchurch by playing their 300th men's T20I match, becoming only the second nation after Pakistan to achieve this volume of appearances. Captain Shreyas Iyer opted to field first after winning the toss, bringing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Prince Yadav into the starting lineup to replace the injured Ishan Kishan and Mayank Yadav.
The visitors entered the contest holding a one-game lead in the five-match series following a successful chase of 226 runs in the opening fixture. India currently holds 199 outright victories in the format and is aiming to become the first team to reach 200 such wins.
