Eleven former Iowa Cyclones players made an impact across the NFL in Week 5, contributing to their teams’ efforts both on and off the field. On the offensive side, Houston Texans’ Xavier Hutchinson and Charlie Kolar (Los Angeles Chargers) led their units with standout performances.
Hutchinson started against the Titans, hauling in four receptions for 65 yards, while Kolar recorded three catches and 37 yards in a tight loss to Denver. Jaylin Noel of the Texans also stood out with five receptions for 41 yards, adding versatility with two punt returns and a kickoff return.
Meanwhile, New York Jets’ Will McDonald IV and Darien Porter (Las Vegas Raiders) delivered defensive highlights, with McDonald forcing a fumble and recovering a strip sack, while Porter made seven tackles and recovered a fumble in a loss to New England. Brock Purdy (San Francisco 49ers) continued his strong start, completing 19 of 29 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns, playing all 60 offensive snaps in a narrow win over Seattle.
Injuries, however, remained a concern, as Breece Hall (Jets) and Jake Hummel (Texans) sat out due to quad and season-ending injuries, respectively, while David Montgomery (Texans) missed time with a groin issue after just nine snaps.
