Alistair Docherty’s earliest golf memory turned into an unexpected lesson in resilience after watching Bernhard Langer navigate a tricky round at the 2010 U.S. Senior Open.
The 32-year-old, who will earn his first PGA Tour card in 2027, recalled sitting near the 10th tee at Sahalee Country Club with his father when Langer’s drive landed in the dense evergreens—a shot that could have rattled even the most seasoned player. Docherty later learned that Langer went on to win the tournament, reinforcing the idea that a single poor shot doesn’t define a golfer’s week.
The experience stuck with him, especially given Sahalee’s reputation for its narrow fairways, which earned it the nickname ‘Sah-hallway.’
