Home loss to South Carolina has Florida free-falling in ESPN's FPI

Florida’s homecoming against South Carolina ended in a 38-19 defeat, marking the Gators’ second consecutive loss and sending them tumbling out of the Top 25. The loss also caused a sharp decline in ESPN’s Football Power Index, pushing Florida into the lower tier of the rankings.

First‑year head coach Jon Sumrall acknowledged that the defeat highlighted persistent defensive lapses and stagnant quarterback play, problems that now threaten the Gators’ season after a promising start that had them perched in the top ten.
