Golfer avoids military service by winning gold at Asian Games

Tom Kim secured a gold medal in the men’s individual golf competition at the Asian Games following his recent appearance at the Presidents Cup. His closing round of 6-under 64 resulted in a 72-hole total of 18-under 262, which allowed him to edge out silver medalist Kazuki Higa and bronze medalist Sadom Kaewkanjana.

By capturing the gold, Kim earned an official waiver from South Korea's compulsory military service, which typically requires eighteen months of service from able-bodied citizens under the Military Service Act, though medalists from the Olympics and Asian Games receive exemptions.
