Boston received a major rotation boost as pitcher Garrett Crochet successfully overcame his shoulder inflammation issue and earned a spot on the club's wild-card playoff roster.
Crochet has been sidelined since late April following just six starts in a campaign where he finished as the previous year's Cy Young runner-up. Manager Chad Tracy noted that the pitcher's workload will be strictly managed, with availability possibly limited to a single inning or three batters, while questions remain regarding his capacity to pitch on consecutive days.
