Pitcher Chase Hampton faces another roster removal as the Washington Nationals designated him for assignment Saturday. The right-hander spent approximately two weeks within Washington's organization without making an appearance, clearing space on the roster to activate left-handed pitcher Connelly Early from the 60-day injured list while also optioning pitcher Luis Perales to Triple-A.
This transaction arrives shortly after the New York Yankees previously parted ways with Hampton by designating him for assignment earlier in September, prompting the Nationals to claim him off waivers. During the 25-year-old's recent minor league action spanning three levels in the Yankees system, he recorded an 8.18 ERA across 55 innings, struggling to replicate his earlier promising seasons following a lengthy recovery from Tommy John surgery.
While pitching in 2023, Hampton had tallied a 3.63 ERA across 20 starts with 145 strikeouts, earning a spot on MLB Pipeline's top-100 prospect list in 2024 before enduring injury setbacks that limited his subsequent playing time.
