Bangladesh’s fast bowler Ebadot Hossain has outlined his tailored approach to battling the extreme heat and humidity ahead of the team’s one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The match, scheduled from October 9 to 13, marks Bangladesh’s first-ever Test in the UAE, a departure from their prior experience in the region, which has been limited to day-night ODIs and T20Is.
During a recent two-day warm-up against the UAE, Bangladesh posted 234 in their first innings, with key contributions from Soumya Sarkar (57*), Shadman Islam (46), Naeem Hasan (36), and Mominul Haque (33). The hosts replied with 222 all out, led by Muhammad Waseem’s 69, while Bangladesh’s bowlers Iqbal Hossain Emon (4/30), Taijul Islam (3/58), and Hossain himself (1/38) shared the spoils.
In their second innings, Bangladesh reached 114 for 3 by the close of day two, setting the stage for a drawn match.
Hossain’s preparation strategy blends hydration with an unconventional training method: upon arrival, he walks barefoot on the ground for 30 to 60 minutes to improve his body’s connection to the surface and accelerate adaptation to the conditions. He also emphasizes drinking fluids like coconut water and consuming more fruits to maintain hydration, starting his routine two days before the match begins.
His methods reflect the unique challenges of playing a full-day Test under Abu Dhabi’s intense climate, where even the squad’s prior day-night experience offers little comparison.
