The Philadelphia Eagles’ season has taken a dramatic turn for the worse, as they suffered their sixth consecutive loss in a 27-10 defeat to the Washington Commanders on Sunday night. The defeat marked the longest losing streak in the franchise since Andy Reid’s 2012 campaign, which ended with a 4-12 record.
The Eagles, now 2-6 and in last place in the NFC East, have shown little fight in any facet of the game, with their offense stalling in the second half after managing just 155 total yards—including a complete shutdown in the final two quarters. Quarterback Tanner McKee struggled mightily, completing 23 of 34 passes for 212 yards while throwing an interception and being sacked five times for a combined loss of 35 yards.
The Eagles’ defense, meanwhile, has been exposed as porous against the run, allowing Washington to amass 135 rushing yards—a figure that has left them as the only NFL team since 1968 to surrender 100-plus rushing yards in each of their first eight games. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has been forced to adjust the unit’s alignment, but the changes have come at the cost of deeper coverage, as evidenced by Washington’s long gains of 30, 33, and even 53 yards in the game.
The Commanders’ late touchdown, capped by Rachaad White’s score with 1:52 remaining, sparked chants of ‘Eagles suck’ from the crowd, underscoring the frustration of a fanbase that has seen its team’s apathy match its on-field struggles.
