The Philadelphia Eagles have placed quarterback Jalen Hurts on injured reserve, effectively sidelining him for at least four weeks. The move follows concerns over a blood clot that originated from an injury sustained earlier in the season, which Hurts played through during the team’s Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Recent tests revealed the clot has worsened, prompting the Eagles to act cautiously. With Hurts now out indefinitely, the team faces a significant setback, especially after a season already marred by injuries to key players like running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver DeVonta Smith, as well as the trade of offensive coordinator Cam Jurgens.
The Eagles, currently tied with the Dallas Cowboys at 2-3, are now 1.5 games behind the division-leading New York Giants, who will host the Eagles in Week 9—a game Hurts would have been eligible to return for, had he cleared the necessary medical timeline. The Giants, who also have a bye in Week 8, now have an opportunity to further extend their lead in the NFC East.
