Indiana’s historic 22-game winning streak and 19-game home unbeaten run ended Saturday as No. 4 Ohio State edged the Hoosiers 19-15 in a game decided by a single play.
With the score tied at 19 and just over 10 minutes left, Indiana’s Josh Hoover threw a potential game-winning touchdown to Nick Marsh on fourth-and-four, but Marsh’s foot came down out of bounds, sealing the loss. The defeat marked the first home loss for Indiana coach Curt Cignetti in three seasons and snapped the program’s longest active win streak in college football.
Ohio State’s Ryan Day noted that quarterback Kyle Sayin, who left with an arm injury, will likely miss the next two weeks, while Indiana’s Hoover finished with 296 yards and a touchdown but also a lost fumble. Despite a valiant effort, Indiana left multiple scoring opportunities unanswered, including a fourth-down sack in the red zone earlier in the game.
The Hoosiers now face a quick turnaround with a trip to Michigan next week, while Ohio State travels to No. 19 USC in two weeks.
The loss revisits a painful rematch from last season’s Big Ten title game, which Indiana won in overtime. Cignetti acknowledged the team’s resilience but admitted the sting of missed opportunities.
‘We had so many chances to close it out,’ he said, reflecting on the heartbreak of falling just short. The defeat also marks the first time since 2021 that Ohio State has lost to Indiana in a head-to-head matchup.
