The Milwaukee Brewers took the opening game of the National League Championship Series by defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers two to one on Sunday evening. Pitcher Tarik Skubal surrendered the decisive run in the fifth frame after yielding a leadoff walk to Garrett Mitchell, who advanced on a sacrifice bunt and scored via Luis Lara's single.
Skubal acknowledged that the initial free pass proved costly by enabling the opponent to spark a rally. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts later defended his tactical choice to deploy rookie Josue De Paula as a pinch hitter against relief pitcher Trevor Megill, marking the twenty-one-year-old's second consecutive postseason pinch-hit walk.
DL Hall and Aaron Ashby also contributed scoreless frames for Milwaukee from the bullpen as the series got underway.
