The Los Angeles Dodgers traded three promising prospects to acquire Tarik Skubal, a two-time Cy Young winner, in hopes of securing a third straight World Series title. Skubal’s postseason pedigree was undeniable: he had gone 3-1 with a 1.97 ERA in seven previous playoff starts, including a dominant Game 1 win over the Atlanta Braves.
However, in Game 1 of the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers, Skubal fell short, allowing a 2-1 loss that marked his first postseason defeat since the 2024 ALDS and his first since joining the Dodgers in August. The Brewers capitalized on Skubal’s early struggles, tying the game in the fourth on a two-run homer by Brice Turang and extending it in the fifth with a pair of runs.
Despite striking out six in his first inning, Skubal’s later work was less precise, yielding four hits and two walks over two innings while allowing two runs. Skubal acknowledged his frustration, admitting, 'I didn’t do my job,' after throwing 81 pitches in five innings.
The Brewers’ bullpen and young ace Jacob Misiorowski held the Dodgers to just three runners in scoring position over the final six frames, securing their first postseason win over Los Angeles since 2018.
